Poster Second Draft

After getting feedback on my first draft, I have created a second draft. This one is less cluttered, has smoother cuts and has better title placement to make it easier to read.

Poster Feedback

I have asked some family members to take a look at my Soap Poster and give me some ideas on how I can improve it. Here are the ideas that they gave.

- The poster is too cluttered- the images are too large, meaning that it looks very cramped. This has restricted the titles meaning they are harder to see, making them harder to read.

- The cuts around the characters are quite rough. They need something to make them look more professional.

- The titles look quite badly thrown in and are quite hard to read. This is a side effect of the over cramping thanks to the large images.

- The cast should be wearing their actual clothes to make them relate to the story better.

- The eyes would be more effective if they were looking down on the cast instead of away from them.

Soap Magazine Second Edit

After getting feedback on my first draft of my soap magazine, I have made some improvements. I have added more colour and rearranged the images a bit to help draw the readers attention and make it comply with the conventions of soap magazine a bit more.

Magazine First Draft Feedback

In order to get some feedback on my magazine cover, I have shown the rest of the class the draft and asked them to tell me what needs improving on it. In order to make it easier to review different factors of the magazine cover, I have put the feedback into different sections.

Design

The cover as a whole needs more colour. At the moment there is a lot of white and not enough bright, eye-catching colours to draw the reader in.

The barcode is too big at the moment. The space it takes up could be used for larger pictures or even extra pictures to make the front cover seem more busy.

The banners are good and well positioned.

Colours

Not enough colour on the magazine cover.

The title needs to be brighter and more clear. At the moment the pale colour for the banner is too subtle.

Border the photos to bring the colour out better in them. Maybe also border the text.

Pub photo is too dark.

Layout

Needs more taglines on the images.

The barcode could maybe be repositioned to fit more images into the page.

Font

Taglines need to be bigger, brighter and less bold in some cases to make them clearer to the readers.

Outline the text to bring it out better and make it more "hard hitting".

Make the text bigger in some cases to help it stand out on the cover.

Typical Conventions

Needs a date to fit in with the typical conventions of a soap magazine.

Needs to say how often it's sold (weekly, monthly etc.).

The page needs to be busier in order to fit in with another convention of soap magazines.

Soap Magazine first draft

Here is the first draft to my soap magazine. It is quite simple at the moment and still needs a couple more pictures which we will take of our cast. I will get feedback on this magazine cover to get ideas on how to improve it.

Feedback

In order to get some feedback, we have shown our rough cut to the class and asked them to tell us what they like and dislike. Here's what they said:

  • The titles worked well in the trailer and nicely fitted the conventions of soap trailers. They also like how we've used a moving image with the title on it and think it's quite quirky.

  • The trailer could maybe do with something before the first scene. They feel it cuts into the action too quickly, not giving it time to build up.

  • They didn't understand why Jasmine put on an accent in her scene (the pub scene). They thought it appeared as though she was overacting in the scene.

  • Liked how there were three different story lines shown in the trailer, each clearly shown making it easy to follow.

  • The trailer needs some music which fits with the different scenes. As the different stories are so different to each other at some points, one single track probably wouldn't be fitting throughout the trailer.
