Evaluation Question 3
Audience feedback has played a very large role in the creating of our product. We have used input from friends and family in order to create a piece which the audience understands and enjoys. The feedback we have collected has been for the poster and magazine as well as the trailer itself, and we have collected from a range of people who fit the kinds of audiences we were trying to appeal to.
Each of our products has about 3 different cuts which we have used audience feedback to improve. For our first cuts of the magazine and posters, we created a forum within the class where people could discuss what they liked and disliked about each of the products. This was extremely helpful as we were gaining feedback from people who could discuss what they liked about the products from a media point of view. This meant people would discuss how conventional the products were as well as how effective they would be in gaining the interest of our target audience. We used a similar method to gain feedback about our video but instead of just showing it to the whole class and gaining group feedback, we also showed it to other certain people including our teachers in order to gain a wider range of views and opinions on what worked and what didn’t in our first cut. This feedback on the first drafts of our products was extremely useful as it allowed us to work on the conventions of the different pieces before showing it to people who could give their views on how each of the products worked for a member of the general public who could possibly be a member of the target audience if we were to create the products for real.
During the class discussion about our poster and magazine cover, we wrote down what the class had to say about each of the two products. We then took this information and changed the two products accordingly to what people had said. In order to make it easier to see what each point had to do with within the poster and magazine, we put them under different heading. The good mix of positive and negative feedback that the class gave us meant we were motivated to improve the products whilst being somewhat happy with the work we’d already done.
After making updates to our pieces, we could look into getting feedback on our 2nd cuts. To do this, we focussed mainly on our target audience who would be more likely to judge the products based on how they appeal and work in the eyes of the target audience rather than how conventional they are to other soap products. The people we asked were school friends who watch at least one soap on a regular basis.
We filmed the feedback we got on our second trailer cut to make it easier to refer back to what each person had to say. The sorts of things they discussed were about how the actual trailer came across to them. For example, one of the things they said was how the music in the party scene didn’t really work for the kind of scene it was, and also that it took away from the drama which was taking place in the scene. To fix this, we changed the music so it faded out slightly during the party scene and then faded back in afterwards. Another feedback comment was that there weren’t enough titles to make it clear when the programme was being shown. In order to fix this, we simply added in extra titles so the audience could clearly see the required information.
We used another group of people to give us feedback on our magazine and poster drafts. This meant we had a wider range of people giving their opinions about our range of products. I personally, asked members of my family who watch soaps to give some feedback on our second drafts. One of the pieces of feedback I got was that the cuts around each of the character when we cut round them in Photoshop were quite rough, giving the poster quite a bad finish, To combat this, we went back and recut the pictures so they we smoother. We also blurred the edges slightly to make them less sharp, making it appear as though the actual cuts are smoother.

Poster Second Draft
After getting feedback on my first draft, I have created a second draft. This one is less cluttered, has smoother cuts and has better title placement to make it easier to read.

Poster Feedback
I have asked some family members to take a look at my Soap Poster and give me some ideas on how I can improve it. Here are the ideas that they gave.
- The poster is too cluttered- the images are too large, meaning that it looks very cramped. This has restricted the titles meaning they are harder to see, making them harder to read.
- The cuts around the characters are quite rough. They need something to make them look more professional.
- The titles look quite badly thrown in and are quite hard to read. This is a side effect of the over cramping thanks to the large images.
- The cast should be wearing their actual clothes to make them relate to the story better.
- The eyes would be more effective if they were looking down on the cast instead of away from them.

Soap Poster First Draft
Here is the draft of my soap poster design. I will get feedback on this poster in order to improve it.
